This is my take on IPSEC vs. SSL VPN. IPSEC is an IP Security Protocol and uses 2 modes. Tunnel and Transport. Transport mode only encrypts the data portion of the packet. Tunnel mode encrypts the whole packet. If you use IPSEC on one end, you must use IPSEC on the other end. I guess I state the obvious with that last statement.
